Cleaning Your Yard This Fall: Leaf and Branch Drop Sites Open
As autumn approaches, residents of Sioux Falls can take charge of their yard cleanup thanks to the city’s convenient leaf and branch drop-off sites. Open from now until November 30, 2025, these sites provide a hassle-free way for homeowners and community members to dispose of yard waste effectively.
Drop-off Locations and Operating Hours
Two drop-off locations are available for residents:
- North Lyon Boulevard: Close to the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds
- Chambers Street: Adjacent to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility
These sites welcome visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Don Kuper, superintendent of the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill, encourages residents to use this service as they prepare their yards for the winter ahead.
Who Can Use the Drop-off Sites?
The drop-off sites are exclusively for residents of Sioux Falls and the surrounding five-county area, including Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, and Turner counties. To ensure the efficacy of these services, only personal vehicles, including cars, pickups, SUVs, and vans, are accepted. Commercial loads and lawn service companies must take their waste directly to the landfill.
Important Guidelines for Drop-off
Before heading to the drop-off sites, be sure to prepare your materials properly:
- Separate branches and leaves into distinct piles.
- Remove waste from plastic bags; paper bags are acceptable.
- Ensure all loads are secured with a tarp or enclosed.
- Stumps, rubble, household garbage, and plastic bags cannot be accepted.
This initiative not only supports residents in maintaining their properties but also contributes to the overall cleanliness and sustainability of Sioux Falls. With an organized approach to yard waste disposal, homeowners can embrace the fall season knowing they're playing their part in protecting the environment.
